When it comes to diabetes, most people refer to either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. But, did you know that there is another type of diabetes known as gestational diabetes? While it may be less common, it still grabs the attention of underwriters and could potentially make it difficult to obtain life insurance. Gestational diabetes, or diabetes will be a question that every life insurance company will ask about on the application.

It is possible, and easy to obtain life insurance with gestational diabetes. You simply need to work with agents who are properly trained in working with the diabetes community, such as Diabetes 365!!! We know all the tips to get better rates on life insurance with diabetes. Finding affordable life insurance with gestational diabetes is much easier than you probably imagine.

What every consumer needs to realize is that every life insurance company will view your gestational diabetes differently. One company may rate you higher, while another may NOT access any additional premiums to your policy. We’ve successfully helped many women apply for life insurance with gestational diabetes, and be approved for Preferred rates. These are the same type of life insurance ratings that non diabetics qualify for. Don’t let other websites trick you with fake information and tell you that you can’t receive rates better than Standard.

Many people who have a history of gestational diabetes feel that their policy will be rated or higher or will be charged more expensive premiums. That’s simply not the case. Certain life insurance companies will offer Standard, Standard Plus, and Preferred ratings with a recent history of gestational diabetes. Best of all, some companies may not even require an examination for amounts of life insurance up to $2 million. Sadly, many online websites provide misleading information about the rates people with gestational diabetes will qualify for. You’ll want to avoid places like Policy Genius, Select Quote, Fidelity Life and others as they are not properly trained to work with people who have a diabetes history.

To obtain life insurance information specific to your unique situation, simply complete an online quote request. A licensed agent will contact you, and will ask for basic health and diabetes history information. Once the agent knows more about your health profile, real and accurate life insurance quotes can be provided to you. It will be impossible to recommend specific life insurance providers until you’ve shared your health profile with an agent.

Let’s take a look at gestational diabetes and how it may have an impact on your life insurance. Hint, it has LESS impact than you probably imagine!!

What is Gestational Diabetes?

Gestational Diabetes is a form of diabetes that affects pregnant women. It occurs in women who have not had any prior signs or diagnosis of diabetes before pregnancy, but during this period they experience high blood glucose levels. Typically, it develops between the 24th and the 28th week of pregnancy.

Here are some statistics from FitPregnancy:

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), or high blood sugar during pregnancy, used to be relatively rare, occurring in about 3 percent to 4 percent of pregnancies. But in recent years, the rate has doubled—now, up to 6 percent to 8 percent of moms-to-be are diagnosed with this prenatal complication. And new recommendations lowering the cutoff point for diagnosis may lead to an even more dramatic increase. (Image Credit DiabNext)

Who’s Most at Risk?

Some of the latest research findings about gestational diabetes:

+ Women who gain excess weight in the first trimester are at higher risk, according to a 2010 study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The association was even stronger among women who started their pregnancies overweight, a study at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Oakland, Calif., found.

+ Korean-American and Filipino-American women have twice the risk of GDM compared with Caucasian and African-American women, another recent Kaiser Permanente study found.

+ Women who drink five or more sugar-sweetened sodas a week before conceiving have a higher GDM risk, according to a study conducted by Harvard University and Louisiana State University.

+ Women with gum disease have higher odds of developing GDM than women with healthy gums, a New York University study found.

+ Frequent snorers have a 14.3 percent chance of developing GDM, compared with a 3.3 percent chance for women who don’t snore, according to a Northwestern University study.

The exact cause of this type of diabetes is unknown, but during pregnancy, your body produces an increased level of hormones, including human placental lactogen (hPL) and hormones that increase insulin resistance. These hormones work to protect the placenta and sustain the pregnancy. Over time, however, the number of hormones in your body increases dramatically. And, eventually, your body may begin to be resistant to insulin.

Insulin is used to move glucose and turn it into energy. When you are pregnant, your baby needs to receive some of the glucose, too. So, naturally, your body will become slightly resistant to insulin. When this resistance becomes too great, blood glucose levels will rise uncharacteristically.

This is when gestational diabetes becomes developed.

Symptoms and risk

The symptoms for gestational diabetes are very similar to those of other forms. Here are the most common:

Fatigue

Blurry vision

Excessive thirst

Increased urination

Snoring

It is important to note, however, that most often there are no signs or symptoms experienced by the pregnant individual.

When it comes to who is at risk for developing gestational diabetes, know that anyone who is pregnant has a possibility of developing it. However, those who possess any of the below characteristics are at an increased risk.

Over the age of 25

A history of high blood pressure

A family history of diabetes

Overweight before becoming pregnant

Gain more weight than normal during pregnancy

Expecting multiple babies

How Gestational Diabetes affects your life insurance application

Believe it or not, although gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes, insurance companies do not treat it the same as other forms of the disease. Technically, gestational diabetes only lasts during the pregnancy. So, it is temporary. Because once the mother gives birth, the body will return to its prior, healthy, non-diabetic state. But companies are going to want to know more about your gestational diabetes history, and treatment history.

What happens for life insurance underwriters, however, is that they take a look at your lifestyle, family history, and such. In their opinion, if your body developed gestational diabetes, how likely are you to develop type 2 diabetes in the future?

In other words, this temporary condition could cause you to be viewed as a higher risk for life insurance companies. Or, depending on a review of your complete health profile, you may NOT be viewed as a higher risk due to your gestational diabetes history. This could be a COMPLETE non issue for you!!!

To find out what rates you may qualify for, simply contact us, and speak with an agent. In the event you’ve been declined due to your history of diabetes, don’t get upset. Just reach out to us, and let us help you out. Our agents will take down some basic health information, from you, and can then determine what companies and what rates you could obtain coverage from.

What we tend to see for most applicants that have a history of gestational diabetes is that you’ll most likely have NO issues in being approved for coverage. Gestational diabetes life insurance is easy to qualify for. Also, in lots of situations, you will not have to even complete a medical examination. Our clients are receiving Preferred rates with select insurance companies that we work with.

Future Type 2 diagnosis or family history?

Approximately half of those who suffer from gestational diabetes will go on to develop type 2 diabetes in the future. Consider this:

Mother X had never been diabetic before, but she developed gestational diabetes during her pregnancy. Afterward, while raising her little baby boy, she continued to follow a strong lifestyle of whole foods and fitness. She went on to live a long, healthy life. Because she took great care of herself, she never developed type 2 diabetes.

This type of individual would have NO problems obtaining diabetes life insurance coverage. In fact, she may qualify for Preferred Plus or Preferred rates, with certain life insurance companies.

Mother Y had never been diabetic before her pregnancy, but she developed gestational diabetes. After the birth of her baby boy, diabetes disappeared, and she never again gave it much thought. She tried to take care of herself, but life got busy and she didn’t eat as she should and never had time for much exercise. Mother Y became pre-diabetic before her 40th birthday and went on to develop type 2 diabetes.

A person with this type of health profile, would still qualify for coverage. However, their rates may be more expensive, compared to a person without any type of diabetes. To read on how to get best life insurance rates for type 2 diabetics, click on this link.

Life Insurance Underwriters know to look at the chances of whether or not the individual will go on to develop type 2 diabetes – which means she would be a much greater risk to life insurance companies. The underwriters take into consideration the medical history prior to the pregnancy to see whether the mother was in good health. In addition, viewing the family history for a common factor of developing diabetes (which is a much more legitimate way to determine risk). Whether fair or not, both of these findings may be used by life insurance providers when making their determination.

The best thing to do, is to speak with an agent, and share your complete health profile with them. All life insurance companies will review your profile differently. One company may rate your policy 25% to 50% more expensive while another life insurance company wouldn’t charge you any higher premiums. Don’t feel like you have to do this alone though! Simply reach out to an agent at Diabetes 365 , and put our expertise to work for you and your family! Without sharing detailed gestational diabetes information to an agent, it will be impossible to determine what the best life insurance company for gestational diabetics will be.

What health information do insurance companies want?

Be prepared when applying for life insurance coverage as you will likely have to supply the underwriter with some medical history and potentially undergo a medical exam since you developed gestational diabetes. If you prefer not to have companies collect blood and urine samples from you, there would most likely be no medical exam life insurance options. This information will likely include:

Whether you are currently pregnant or intend to become pregnant.

Detailed information concerning your gestational diabetes, whether you have it now or had it in the past. It is very important to disclose your diabetes history on an insurance application.

Information on medication that was/is taken for gestational diabetes, including the name of medicine, dosage, and how long you took it. You will also need to provide a list of all the other medications you currently take.

A detailed review of your family history, including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. You’ll also want to note your recent A1C readings as this will be required by an Underwriter.

Your smoking habits and/or alcohol consumption. Also, any drug use or drug abuse history.

All of this information is put together to form an overall health profile for you. While applying, you must disclose your diabetes history on the application. There’s no way to hide this. Most likely you’ve been prescribed a form of medication for gestational diabetes, and this will show up in the prescription drug background report. Underwriters will then put you into a health rating category that’s decided by your health profile. These are:

Preferred Plus / Preferred

This is for those individuals in stellar health with no family history of risky health conditions. Those in this category get the lowest possible rates. If you have an exercise program, watch your diet and overall health, tend to receive these favorable rates.

Standard Plus / Standard

If you are in pretty good health with a minimal family history, then you will likely fall into this category. It means that while you may have some minor health issues, overall you are in good health. You will still get a decent insurance rate. Majority of applicants without any type of diabetes tend to fall into this category. If you’re in average health with a history of gestational diabetes, you’ll probably fall into these two underwriting classifications.

Substandard

This final category is for those that are at the highest risk for life insurance companies – and will pay the highest premiums. Only individuals with poor overall health history will fall into this category. Rarely are we seeing our clients with gestational diabetes fall into this category, unless there’s a history of severe health issues.

The above life insurance classifications will determine your final premiums. After an underwriter reviews your health profile, they’ll approve you at one of the above ratings. Preferred rates will be less expensive than Standard Plus or Standard ratings. The Substandard ratings would be considerably more expensive than all other ratings. But, like we mentioned, very rarely is a person going to be in this category unless there are severe health issues at time of application, or within the last few years.

Fortunately, there are more and more companies that are now offering coverage to people with diabetes. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to get life insurance as a diabetic WITHOUT partaking in a medical exam. No medical exam life insurance is an extremely popular option for the diabetes community. Especially those who live with type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Life Insurance Overview

With us living in the Covid 19 or Coronavirus era, many changes have occurred in the life insurance market place. As we come out of this environment, many positive changes have been made within the life insurance industry. Companies understand that many people may not want to meet at an examination office, or have an examiner come into their home. Or in some cases, underwriters know that certain people with diabetes are healthy and possibly additional medical testing is not needed.

Due to the unprecedented world we are living in, certain life insurance companies Diabetes 365 works with may waive the examination. Best thing about this is you may receive the EXACT type of rates as a company who requires an examination. I mean if you DON’T have to do an examination and get preferential rates, why would you go through the additional requirements?

Life insurance companies have been evolving over time, and that’s a positive. They are even beginning to favor people who have type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes or even gestational diabetics a little more favorably. Using background checks and reports you can be approved without subjecting yourself to traditional life insurance underwriting.

Because of this, rates for life insurance as a diabetic are at all time lows. And policies are now offering the same types of life insurance riders, that people without diabetes can obtain. If not wanting to complete a medical exam while applying for life insurance, you’d most likely have this option available to you. We can honestly say that 75% of applicants for diabetes life insurance may have non medical exam options.

The ONLY way we or anyone can determine what non medical exam life insurance options you’ll have is by contacting us, or by completing a quote request. After reaching out to us, an agent can communicate with you to learn more about your health and diabetes history. Once the necessary information is received from you, an agent will share multiple non medical examination options with you.

What Happens During a Life Insurance Medical Exam?

If you are looking for an insurance policy that provides you with the largest benefit for the lowest monthly premium payment, it might be in your best interest to take a medical exam. Or if it may be BEST to apply on a non medical exam basis. There’s honestly no way to determine which type of policy is best for you until you begin working with us, and providing us with a diabetes questionnaire. Your detailed diabetes history will point us in the right direction depending on your answers.

The reason for this is that insurance companies want to be confident about the level of risk that is associated with providing coverage to each individual. The best way to fully grasp the state of wellbeing in the health of the prospective insured is through the recommended medical exam. Showing updated lab results including A1C and Glucose readings will show an underwriter an accurate look into how well your diabetes is being controlled. Generally, if willing to complete this type of paramedical exam, more life insurance companies will consider you for coverage. The number of no exam life insurance options for a diabetic will be limited to probably 10 or less companies.

The medical exam is pretty basic. The insurance company will send a nurse or paramedic to your residence to perform a few simple medical tests, such as a blood test and take a urine sample, and they will ask you to fill out a medication questionnaire. In the past, if you want to bypass the medical exam, you will be paying a larger premium. For some individuals with diabetes, ‘skipping’ a medical examination will NO LONGER mean you pay higher rates. If your diabetes is well-managed by prescription drugs, and you are compliant with the treatment your Doctor is recommending, chances are you will receive a lower rate compared to a person who is noncompliant with treatment..

In the event you wish to complete a paramedical examination, the examiner will take your Height, Weight, and will collect blood and urine samples. This information is then sent to an independent lab. The results are then sent to the insurance company, or the underwriter to review. These lab results can also be sent to you as well for your records. We’ll note that you’ll want to be certain that

In order to ensure the lowest rates, it is very important to effectively manage your diabetes through a healthy diet and exercise. Other factors that can significantly lower your monthly rates are lowering your A1C, reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight, and taking less medications. Rates also tend to be lower if you were diagnosed with diabetes later in life. Basically, you want to be as healthy as possible at time of applying.

What If I Want to Skip the Life Insurance Medical Exam?

However, you may want to skip the medical exam for multiple reasons. Maybe you do not have the time to get a medical exam done, you aren’t managing your diabetes to your best ability, you are a tobacco user, you are considered overweight, or you want life insurance quickly. The good news is if your diabetes is well-managed with doctor-subscribed prescriptions, you don’t need to take a medical exam to qualify for coverage.

Depending on the applicant, rates without an examination may NOT be more expensive. But in order for us to determine your best options you’ll want to complete a quote request and speak with an agent about your health profile. It may be in your best interest to do an examination.

Some life insurance companies will offer policies that will simply do a prescription drug background check, and a Medical Information Bureau review. The information in these background checks determine your eligibility, and your rates.

There are several life insurance companies issuing life insurance for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics with no exam required, both term and whole life policies. If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, there are many different options for you, with ranging amounts of coverage. Different companies have rules governing who they will approve, varying from ages of people they will accept to the method of medication you use. There are companies who will disqualify you if you use any type of injectable insulin. As long as you don’t have any other underlying health conditions, you should not have any trouble finding an insurance company that will provide you with coverage.

If you have type 1 diabetes, it may be a little more complicated to find affordable life insurance. Because there isn’t a known cure for type 1 diabetes, the potential for loss is higher. Therefore, the risks associated with guaranteeing a death benefit is also greater. 99% of the time life insurance rates for a type 1 diabetes individual will be more expensive compared to a person living with type 2 diabetes. While this seems unfair, it’s simply how life insurance companies are viewing type 1 diabetics.

There are still no medical exam options available to the type 1 diabetes community, but MOST companies will order the last 4 to 5 years worth of medical records. The information in those medical records will determine the final offers. Don’t stress this. You may also have a couple of options by companies who do not require a review of medical records. So if you absolutely want to bypass the medical exam, you would have options.

Please also note if you are unaware of what type of lab results you have in your medical history, please do NOT apply to companies who’ll review medical files. You may get declined and not be able to qualify for coverage. Rather, apply on a non medical basis initially. Or if you can gain access to your records, look them over and share things with an agent for further guidance.

What Information are Underwriters Looking For?

Life insurance companies will be looking for the following information in your medical records, that will determine eligibility and your final rates:

How well is your control of your Diabetes

What is your recent A1C readings

Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio readings

Fructosamine readings

Glucose readings

BUN readings

Do you have any Diabetes related complications

Are you compliant with your Doctors instructions on treatment

Do you have a regular exercise program

Are you watching your diet

Any other severe health issues

If you’re applying for life insurance on a medical examination basis, those types of readings and results will have a direct correlation to the types of offers you’ll receive. Now if readings come back abnormal, expect to pay higher premiums, or you may find yourself declined all together.

In the event an insurance company will make a final offer without any examinations or lab work, your medical records will 100% determine your fate. The more positive information in your file, the better your rates will be. Or if a company can make an offer using MIB data and prescription drug history, your background information will determine being approved or being declined.

We also like to point out that most people with Gestational Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, or Pre-Diabetes will receive better rates than a person with Type 1 Diabetes. Most life insurance providers will view an individual living with Type 1 Diabetes as a ‘higher’ risk than other types of diabetes. While we feel this is unfair, it’s simply how the life insurance world is.

When working with Diabetes 365, your dedicated agent will walk you thru all this, and will explain to you all your choices. Since we only work with the Diabetes community, we’ll only provide you with real and accurate information. No fake quotes, no low balls offers will be given from us. We are a part of the Diabetes community, so we are going to treat you with the respect you deserve.

Don’t let that frighten you, though; you can still find the perfect insurance plan, even with type 1 diabetes. There are plans, like companies we work with, that cover type 1 diabetics from ages 0-89 (amounts of coverage vary) and $10K to $5 million (amounts vary from state to state as does product offering). Some people may even qualify for $2 million or higher on a non medical exam basis.

Final Thoughts

When choosing an insurance plan, make sure to look out for any waiting periods, incontestability periods, and other restrictions that could prevent you from receiving the benefits you need and deserve. Sadly many people apply to guaranteed issue companies when they’d qualify for immediate death benefits options. You only want to apply for a guaranteed acceptance life insurance policy as a last resort. Most likely you will qualify for a policy that pays an immediate death benefit. God forbid something were to happen to you in the first two policy years, we’d want to make sure that your beneficiary would receive the full amount of the life insurance policy.

Everyone’s financial objectives are different. The amounts of coverage, and the type of policy you need will vary from person to person. Some individuals need a diabetes term life insurance policy while others may benefit from whole life insurance policies.

No matter what type of diabetes you have, you would have no medical exam options available to you. It’s important that you fill out a quote request, or contact us to discuss your options. Everyone’s diabetes profile is different. And so will their life insurance options. Speak with us, and let us provide you real and accurate Diabetes life insurance information. There is a lot of misinformation when it comes to diabetes and life insurance. Lean on us, and let our agents help you and your family find the best possible life insurance policy for your family today!

Disclosing Diabetes to the Life Insurance Company

The Life Insurance Application and Medical Questionnaire

If you know you have gestational diabetes, Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, this must be disclosed on your application for life insurance and medical questionnaire. If you fail to disclose it, your life insurance company will deny your beneficiaries’ death benefit claims due to misrepresentation. Every life insurance company will ask about a history of diabetes on the health question portion of the application.

Why can claims be denied due to misrepresentation on a life insurance application? Simply put, the insurance company would have charged you higher premiums or perhaps not insured you at all had it known of your condition. In the event an insurance company discovers undisclosed health conditions at time of your application, this gives them the right to contest your death claim. And to possibly not pay it out to the designated beneficiary.

When you apply for life insurance coverage, life insurance companies will do what is referred to as an underwriting process. This underwriting process may require a review of :

Recent medical records

A paramedical examination

Prescription drug review

Motor Vehicle Report

Medical Information Bureau review,

Or even a credit check in some situations involving higher amounts of coverage

It will be very tough to hide your condition of any type of diabetes on insurance applications. However, if you do apply to a company that doesn’t require any of these background reports, there may be a chance that your omission of diabetes will slip by.

Many people are under the assumption that a no medical exam life insurance policy will guarantee you of being approved. That is not the case. Life insurance carriers who do not require medical records nor blood/urine testing will do a MIB and prescription drug background check. If you check NO for diabetes history or treatment, and the company sees you are being prescribed medication for diabetes, you will be declined on the spot.

We cannot stress enough that you always want to be 100% honest on any type of insurance application. Lying on an application is illegal, and could cause for your death claim to not pay out to your family. Or if an insurance company catches you lying, they can always cancel your policy at a future date.

What if I get Diagnosed with Diabetes After I have a Policy?

For many people, you may have already obtained a life insurance policy at a younger age before you were diagnosed with diabetes. If this is the case, you do NOT have to notify your agent or your insurance company.

Life insurance companies issue your policy based on your health at time of application. If your health were to change after you have a policy, your rates will not increase, nor will you be dropped from the policy. Again, any time you have a change in health, there is NO reason to contact your insurance agent, nor insurance carrier.

In the event you would reapply for an additional life insurance policy in the future, the new policy would be ‘priced’ off your current overall health. Having diabetes will more than likely make your policy more expensive compared to a person who doesn’t have a type of diabetes. While we feel it’s unfair, it’s the reality of the situation. Life insurance underwriters always view a person with diabetes as a higher risk compared to a non diabetic.

It would be wise to contact Diabetes 365, share with us your diabetes and health profile, and allow us the opportunity to explore what life insurance options are available to you. Being specialists in all things diabetes and life insurance related we promise to help you obtain the best life insurance policies possible.

Getting Death Benefits Paid when the Insured Died from Complications Related to Diabetes

If Diabetes was Disclosed, the Death Benefit Should Be Paid

If for some reason your claim for death benefits was denied and the insured’s cause of death was related to diabetes, you need to find out the reason the claim was denied. Frequently insurance companies will deny death benefit claims when the insured died while abroad, within the 2-year contestability period, or under circumstances which indicate that it might have been murder or suicide.

When a person passes away in the first 24 months of a policy, the life insurance company has the ability to contest the death claim. They may re-review medical records, foreign travel history, or search for other lifestyle issues that may not have been disclosed previously. We’ve even heard of investigators reviewing social media platforms for any type of evidence that may show you were not honest about your lifestyle. In event they find any material misrepresentations on the application, they can deny the death claim.

In these cases, if the cause of death was related to diabetes and the insured disclosed his or her condition to the insurance company, the initial denial can be overturned and the benefit, while delayed, will be paid. By law, an insurance company must pay the full death benefit to the listed beneficiaries. As you very well know, many people with diabetes may have a complication such as Neuropathy or Retinopathy.

If Diabetes was not Disclosed, the Death Benefit Might Still Be Paid

What if the Insured did not know he or she had diabetes?

If the insured died of diabetes-related causes and did not know he or she had diabetes, the insurance company only has an argument to deny payment of the death benefit if it can show that the insured had to have known about his or her condition and failed to disclose it. It sounds crazy, but sometimes a person may be an undiagnosed diabetic at the time of applying for life insurance.

If there is any evidence at all that the insured knew he or she had diabetes, the insurance company might settle with the beneficiaries for some amount less than the full benefit to take into consideration the higher premiums the insured should have been paying as a diabetic.

Issues like these rarely ever occur. If a person is seeing a Doctor on a regular basis, they will have updated blood work that is tested for diabetes. These lab results will show if a person is pre-diabetic, or if they actually fall in the range of having type 1 or type 2 diabetes. When your Doctor reviews your lab results, A1C results will be included. Any medical practitioner will be aware of elevated A1C levels and will be able to properly diagnose a diabetes diagnosis.

What if the insured knew but did not update his or her life insurance policy?

Death claim will 100% be paid to the beneficiary. Again, your health profile and eligibility is determined at the time of application. If your health changes in the future, and your policy is in force at time of death, the insurance company by law must pay out the full death benefit. We assure you that getting diabetes after your insurance policy is issued will not impact current rates, nor the payout of the death benefit.

Getting Death Benefits Paid When a Diabetic Insured Died from Other Causes

If the insured had diabetes and failed to disclose it, and died within the 2-year contestability period, the insurance company will deny death benefit claims due to misrepresentation. An experienced life insurance lawyer can help beneficiaries get paid by arguing that the cause of death had nothing to do with undisclosed diabetes.

AD&D Claims When the Insured has Diabetes

“Accidental Death and Dismemberment” policies provide coverage when an insured is injured or dies as a result of an accident. Death from diabetes is not an accident as it is death due to complications from the disease. For this reason, death benefits will likely not be paid if the death was caused by complications related to diabetes.

However, if an insured with diabetes dies or is severely injured accidentally, in some way unrelated to diabetes, the AD&D policy will payout. For example, if the insured is thrown from a horse, or is in a car accident, or falls while skiing, these are all accidents covered under AD&D.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, if you have diabetes and you are applying for life insurance, you must disclose your condition to the life insurance company if you expect your beneficiaries to be paid. If you do not, you risk denial of your beneficiaries’ claims. Why would you do that when you have been paying premiums all these years? There is no reason why you would want to jeopardize the payout to your family, or to the designated beneficiary.

Shopping for life insurance with Diabetes? You probably have many questions, like “How do I know which policy to choose?” or “what company should I go with?” or even “can diabetics get life insurance?” Having a conversation about life insurance is never a pleasant topic, but it’s an extremely important one.

Unfortunately, having diabetes makes ‘shopping for life insurance’ a little more challenging. And when you first go on the internet, you’ll see so many sites, and advertisements, your head will spin!! Sadly there is a lot of misinformation when it comes to life insurance and diabetes. Simply stated, many websites will provide fake or misleading life insurance information.

We’ll warn you that websites like Fidelity Life, Investopedia, Value Penguin and several others simply provide false information when it comes to life insurance and diabetes. Their articles are written by people who have NO life insurance background, nor do they have any insight into which companies are best for people with diabetes. Companies mentioned on their website simply pay them money to advertise. Don’t get tricked by websites like this, as it’ll lead to you over paying for life insurance.

This is an important decision that can impact you and your family’s future, even after you are gone. Whether it’s your first time buying life insurance or not, everybody should know these important tips when shopping around for the right diabetic life insurance policy. Below are some tips we’d like to share if you have Diabetes and are searching for life insurance.

Why Do I Need Life Insurance?

When you first begin looking into life insurance, please ask yourself this question. The answer will be a GREAT first step for you, into determining what type of policy is ideal for you. Everyone’s financial situation is different, so there isn’t any ONE type of life insurance policy that fits everyone’s needs. Perhaps you are a new parent, and life insurance is an extremely important financial product for your growing family.

When shopping for life insurance, you will hear many different terms and you should know what they mean. It’s important to learn the basics, such as the difference between term life insurance and whole life (permanent) insurance.

+ Whole Life Insurance

Protects you until the day you die. When you pass away, your beneficiary will collect your death benefit. However, whole life insurance policies are one of the most expensive types of permanent life insurance, available to the diabetes community. For certain individuals, whole life insurance policies are a perfect fit.

+ Term Life Insurance

With term life insurance, you are only covered for a particular period of time. If you live longer than a term life insurance policy specifies, the policy becomes invalid and nobody receives your death benefit. You can either purchase another term policy or choose to live without life insurance at that point. While term life insurance will not cover your complete life, it will provide the lowest priced option for you initially. Many people take out multiple term life policies, to address various financial needs.

Generally, younger consumers may want to consider taking out term coverage, and also a form of permanent life insurance. This strategy can help provide the proper amount of life insurance for your family today, and lock in permanent coverage at rates that would be much cheaper than if you waited into your 50’s or 60’s to secure permanent life insurance.

We’d also like to point out you are NOT restricted to just one type of policy. Many people may need term life insurance, and a permanent life insurance policy. Don’t let all this sound confusing. Contact us, and our agents will work with you to help determine what policy, or policies are in your best interest. Depending on your financial budget, you may need to start with a term life insurance policy initially, and eventually purchase a permanent policy at a later date. Everyone’s financial situation is unique, and the life insurance strategy that’s best for your situation will be different than your neighbors.

Understand that Life Insurance with Diabetes May Cost More

Having a chronic disease such as Diabetes doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be declined for life insurance. However, life insurance companies are going to make offers of coverage, based on your Diabetes history, and control of Diabetes.

If you have type 1 diabetes, chances are your policies will be higher priced, compared to people with type 2 diabetes. Life insurance for type 1 diabetics isn’t impossible to obtain, but in terms of life insurance carriers, you’ll be limited. Most type 1 diabetics will receive offers 25% to 50% higher priced, compared to non diabetics. All life insurance companies will view your health differently, so it’s important to work with agencies like Diabetes 365, to help you find the best carrier for you. Use our expertise to help you find the most competitively priced policies available to you.

People with type 2 diabetes tend to receive better rates compared to people living with type 1 diabetes. Not only that, but there’ll be many more options available. Several companies will offer no medical exam life insurance coverage to type diabetics. Most people with type 2 diabetes will pay life insurance rates, similar to people without diabetes. Standard rates are easily obtained. And depending on your overall health profile, some companies will offer Preferred rates! Depending on your A1C history, and overall health profile, you should have several life insurance companies to choose from.

Work With Specialists Who ONLY Work With Diabetics

Having diabetes, and searching for life insurance will require just a little more work. Several websites out there advertise ‘fake’ quotes to people with diabetes. Or most importantly, they don’t understand how to work with the diabetes community!!! Sadly, applying with the wrong company or agent can lead to a decline in coverage, or higher rates.

You need to work with agents who SPECIALIZE in life insurance with diabetes. We know all the tips to help you get the most competitive rates! This could be the difference in getting approved or declined all together. Or this could help save you THOUSANDS of dollars over the lifetime of the insurance policy.

Many agents are not properly trained. That’s why Diabetes 365 was created, to assist you and your family in obtaining the proper coverage. We work with all the major life insurance carriers, and most importantly have ‘special’ relationships with these underwriters. This helps us insure that we can get the best possible life insurance offers for your clients. Depending on your overall health profile, and control of Diabetes, we’ll be able to recommend the best life insurance companies for your current situation.

Life insurance is not a quick, frequent purchase. Don’t think that you are going to shop and sign with a life insurance company in a day. It is vital to get quotes from multiple life insurance companies and compare their offerings. Good news is, we do all this for you!!!!

We will educate you, and explain what each policy entails, and the differences between them. With doing this, you can ensure that you are going with the policy that suits your needs the best and also has the best possible rate. You don’t want to be stuck with a policy that you cannot afford or isn’t right for you. When working with us, you’ll receive real and accurate life insurance quotes. We will not bait and switch you like other websites such as Policy Genius and SelectQuote do. Do not get tricked by websites like this showing you unrealistic life insurance quotes.

Determine How Much Coverage You Need

Having the right amount of life insurance is a must! But how do you calculate the amount of life insurance you need? Don’t be afraid to try to compute some numbers yourself. You are the person who knows your own financial situation the best. We are also happy to assist, and to ‘brainstorm’ with you.

We understand that the amount of the life insurance premiums will help dictate how much life insurance you can comfortably afford. And since diabetics tend to pay higher rates, you may not be able to afford as much life insurance, as you’d like. However, when working with agencies like Diabetes 365, we’ll work with you, and help you find the lowest available policies!!

A common but outdated method is the rule of 10. This means to multiply your income by 10, and that tells you how much life insurance you need. In our opinion, this amount would be the MINIMUM amount of life insurance you’d need.

Other ways to calculate an amount of coverage, is to add up your debt, (college loans, mortgages, credit card debt) factor in the cost of raising your children and higher education for them, as well as the number of years you’d like to replace your income. You may even want to factor in if you’d like to leave any life insurance proceeds to charities. IF that’s the case, you would want to add this amount to the total.

No one has the same needs and amounts, so it’s tough to throw out advice just recommending one amount of coverage. If you are unsure of the right amount of life insurance, just give us a quick call. We’ll be more than happy to work alongside you.

Life Insurance is for Protection; Not An Investment

Life insurance should not be looked at as the same kind of investment as a mutual fund. Term insurance provides protection only, without a savings component.

Whole life (permanent) policies do accumulate a cash value over time that can be borrowed against or withdrawn, if needed, but hold many restrictions regarding when the money is actually available to you. If you borrow against the cash value, you may also be charged interest, depending on the situation and individual policy.

Other types of insurance policies, such as Indexed Universal Life, offer in addition to a death benefit, an accumulated cash value account. According to Investopedia, Indexed universal life (IUL) allows the owner to allocate cash value amounts to either a fixed account or an equity index account. Policies offer a variety of well-known indexes such as the S&P 500 or the Nasdaq 100. IUL policies are more volatile than fixed ULs, but less risky than variable universal life policies because no money is actually invested in equity positions. While certain life insurance policies can accumulate cash value, they are NOT actually investments. The main feature of every life insurance policy is to provide a specific level of protection for your family.

Check Out The Benefit Riders For Each Policy

Policy benefits riders, or benefit add-ons differ in each policy. Some riders come standard, while others cost a premium. Comprehending different policy riders such as an accelerated death benefit rider, child rider, waiver of premium rider, etc., may help you determine if paying a little bit more for a policy that comes with built-in benefits is worth the extra cost.

Do not buy any extra riders until you fully understand what they mean and if you actually need them.

For example, if you are diagnosed as terminally ill, the accelerated death benefit rider lets you access your payout. It might include a life expectancy of 12 months or less, but pay attention because the rules of each plan differs. It may be included with your policy or you may be charged additional fees.

Many riders are available to people with diabetes. Again, don’t feel like you are on your own, when it comes to these issues. We are here to assist, and to recommend suitable riders for you. We love finding diabetes clientele life insurance policies with living benefit riders that are offered at NO EXTRA cost to you. If you’re a consumer, wouldn’t you love to have life insurance with ‘free’ terminal, critical, and chronic illness riders?

Many riders are available to people with diabetes. Again, don’t feel like you are on your own, when it comes to these issues. We are here to assist, and to recommend suitable riders for you.

Diabetics have nearly all the same options when it comes to life insurance, as people without this disease. The problem is, the diabetes community is going to the wrong websites to find information, and are being mislead. Don’t make this mistake. Diabetes 365 was founded to assist diabetics through the life insurance process. To receive information, simply do an inquiry, or give us a quick call.

Final Thoughts

Let us do all the ‘hard work’, on your behalf. An agent will discuss all the options that you’d have available. WE make the entire application process a ‘breeze’ for you! Finding life insurance with any type of diabetes doesn’t have to be difficult when working with an agent who’s knowledgeable.

Having a form of diabetes does make obtaining life insurance ‘slightly’ more challenging. This is due to NOT being able to qualify for Preferred Plus rates that are advertised to the masses. It’s important to have realistic expectations as you begin the application process. By this we mean that you’ll most likely pay higher prices for life insurance and not qualify for all the policies that people without diabetes qualify for.

We love working with the diabetes community to help secure the best possible life insurance policy. Let us earn you trust, and help you out. We’ll make the entire application process as easy as possible. Contact us today and let us go to work for you and your family.

Unfortunately, many agents or agencies are not properly trained to work with the diabetes community. Simply stated they do not know what they are doing, and are misleading you. Websites like Investopedia, Policy Genuis, and Value Penguin provide content and information that’s not even written by licensed insurance agents. They’ve never worked with anyone who has a type of diabetes in finding the proper life insurance provider. Imagine taking advice from people who literally have zero experience in providing life insurance coverage to families.

If you have ever applied for life insurance to protect your family and been declined due to diabetes, then you know the feeling. Every year thousands of people are declined life insurance due to Diabetes. The reasons for being declined vary from applicant to applicant. But oftentimes it simply comes down to applying to the wrong life insurance company or product. These are very easy corrections to make when working with us.

It is scary that a letter stating you were declined for life insurance coverage. This is extremely frustrating. The thought of something happening to you and your family being left without you – and without the financial assistance you provide – is difficult to fathom. What will you do?
First Things First: Find Out Why

If you are diabetic, you may automatically assume that is the reason you were denied coverage. This could be true. However, truth be told, there are many different reasons that could make obtaining life insurance difficult – you just may not be aware of them. For instance, here are a few:

Paramedical exam results

Your medical history including recent A1C level

Medical Information Bureau report

Prescription Drug history

Hazardous occupation

Driving records

Financial distress

Foreign Travel

The riskier your life style, the greater of a risk you are to the insurance company – and that can include your health, your career, your behavior, and so forth. Therefore, life insurance companies can and will deny you coverage based on a number of factors.

Good news! There are several life insurance companies to choose from, who all underwrite people with Diabetes differently. One may decline you for the reasons above, while another would gladly accept you. This is a perfect example of why you need to work with agents who have access to several life insurance providers.

While working with us, an agent will review your health profile, your financial objectives, and will be able to make suitable life insurance recommendations.

We constantly see people being declined for life insurance because they worked with an agent who wasn’t proficient in the diabetes life insurance market place. Many agents simply don’t have the knowledge, nor training to properly work with a person with diabetes. This is sad to see, but it’s quite common. If you fall into this category, do not hesitate to contact us, or make a quote request.

Before you can correct the issue and find yourself coverage for sure, you need to know why you were declined. Speak to your agent and get a clear explanation. Often times a company may send out a letter describing the EXACT reasons, for your declination. Review this, and have the information readily available, when you begin speaking with another agent.

The Power of Your MIB

Your MIB can sort of be compared to a credit report for your health. MIB simply stands for Medical Information Bureau. When you apply for life insurance coverage, the underwriter will pull your MIB report, review the results of your medical exam, and read through your application. Between these three things, they can get a glimpse into your life – and your level of risk you present to the life insurance carrier.

Your MIB contains information from every life insurance application you have submitted. It doesn’t spill out every detail of your last 20 doctor visits in detail, but it does code certain reported conditions that may be helpful in determining your eligibility. If you were declined by other companies, those details will be in the MIB report. Most of the information – if not all – was provided by you, through past applications for life insurance and such. It gives the underwriter a timeline of your health and helps to make a better decision regarding insurance coverage.

If you’ve never applied for life insurance, then you’d have an empty MIB report. This isn’t an issue at all. Companies will not penalize you for not having a history of applying for coverage.

THIS IS IMPORTANTt: when a life insurance company denies you coverage, it is often noted on your MIB. The next time you apply for coverage, the insurance company will see you were declined coverage, and the reasons behind the declination. Some common examples include elevated A1C readings or possibly diabetes complications.

Some companies may automatically decline you due to previous declination history . Other life insurance carriers could care less about the declines, and simply focus on your health and diabetes control at time of applying with them. This is why you never want to just nonchalantly fill out insurance applications and send them out to agents and agencies, who do not have any clue how to work with people with Diabetes. One mistake like this, can eliminate options for you in the future.

If You Were Declined Due to Diabetes

So, you spoke to the previous agent and it was determined that you were declined coverage due to your diabetes condition and history. It’s understandable. You are a higher risk compared to somebody who doesn’t have a form of diabetes. Now take a quick second, and relax. Most likely, you were working with an agent who wasn’t properly trained to deal with the diabetes community. Maybe you simply applied to the wrong life insurance company. It happens more than you can imagine.

These are the exact reasons why you need to contact us, and let our team assist. Afterall, we ONLY work with people who have Diabetes 365 days of the year, find affordable life insurance.

Why would diabetes result in you being denied coverage?

Here are some of the things that play into their decision:

A report of high A1C can spark the attention of underwriters. Since A1C is in direct response to how well your blood sugar is maintained, it can give the insurance underwriter a sense of how well your diabetes is managed. The higher your A1C readings, generally the higher your life insurance premiums.

Medical conditions in addition to diabetes. Diabetes can eventually lead to many complications, some severe. If you have a Diabetes complication, be up front with your agent. Or if you have a history of abnormal labs such as blood in urine, elevated protein levels in urine, you’ll want to again be open and honest with your insurance professional.

Thankfully, that is not the end. Despite having type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, you can still obtain life insurance. And, that is good news, isn’t it? Despite what you read on other websites, we assure you that there are life insurance options for 95% of individuals who live with Diabetes.

Maintaining Your Health

If you have diabetes, it’s crucial that you care for your health. Maintaining your condition can not only extend your life but also provide you with better opportunities – such as for life insurance.

Monitor your glucose.

Eat a healthy diet rich in whole foods and void of too many processed foods. Some life insurance companies will decline you due to being overweight in combination of having diabetes.

Be compliant with Doctors orders

Exercise. You don’t have to spend your life at the gym, but getting a little exercise each day can do amazing things for your health.

Utilize diabetes technology to help manage your condition.

Here’s an article where we outline several tricks, to help you obtain the best life insurance rates with Diabetes.

If You Were Declined for Something Else

Choosing the right life insurance company is very important. If you have a hazardous job and are denied life insurance due to that, then you can’t just switch careers, right? Well, you could, but who would do that?

Maybe your Doctor recommended you to have additional testing completed, or recommended having a procedure done. People aren’t aware of this, but if you have outstanding tests and procedures, you most likely will be postponed life insurance coverage until they are completed. Maybe we’d know of a specific company who would underwriter you and your current profession.

However, if you apply for life insurance with a company that is known for taking chances on individuals such as yourself, then you have a greater chance of receiving a policy – and you can avoid the denials, the wasted time, and the marks on your MIB. Again every life insurance company has specific underwriting guidelines. Let us research your unique health profile, and ‘shop’ it out to several life insurance providers.

All life insurance carriers also view a person’s Diabetes history differently. Some would decline you because you were diagnosed as a child with Type 1 Diabetes. Others would gladly accept you. These reasons alone are why you need to work with agents who specialize in working with the Diabetes community. We’ll also note that for some people there just may not be any options at this present time. You may have to postpone applying for life insurance coverage for an extended period of time.

What Type of Life Insurance is Best for You?

Will just any type of life insurance work for you? Do you need a term life insurance policy, or maybe a whole life insurance policy? For those who have been denied coverage and who have a medical condition such as diabetes, finding a policy may require you to narrow your search. Depending on your health profile, you may not qualify for traditional fully underwritten policies.

A no-exam life insurance policy has become more and more popular. This type of insurance doesn’t require you to have a medical exam, though the underwriter may still review your medical records. Certain companies will only have you answer basic health questions, run a MIB and prescription drug background report. You can oftentimes be approved for coverage in 24 to 48 hours.

And, while this may make it easier for you to find coverage, you may discover that you pay a bit more in premiums than expected. Why? Because the insurance company is taking a risk on you. They are only able to see a small picture, into your overall health. However, sometimes a no exam life insurance policy is your best option. As life insurance companies continue to evolve, we are seeing many applicants qualify for coverage on a non medical exam basis and receive the same rates that others who complete examinations do.

For certain people, a non medical exam policy is the best option. Everybody has a different health and diabetes profile. Because of this, it’s imperative to speak with us, and share with us your pertinent health information. This allows us to properly determine what non medical exam options you may have available to you.

A Guaranteed Issue (GI) life insurance policy is one that is, well, guaranteed. It is typically for people who are between 50 and 85 years of age and doesn’t extend higher than $25,000. But, if you are having difficulty obtaining life insurance, this is a definite way to go. Please keep in mind, however, that these policies always have a two-year waiting period. That means you will pay your premium for two years before you will be fully covered.

If you pass away within those two years, your loved ones may only receive back all premiums paid, plus a 10 percent interest. You never want to take out a policy like this, unless it’s your only option. Some well known companies like Mutual of Omaha, and Gerber Life Insurance offer these types of policies. Or maybe you are searching out a burial insurance policy, that will allow your family to address all of your final expenses at the time of your passing. Many people will qualify for these types of whole life insurance policies.

Working with an independent agent can help you determine the exact policy, that’s best for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out to us, and receive an honest evaluation. This is what we do for consumers like you. We simply discuss your needs and will provide real and accurate diabetes life insurance information to you.

The Benefits of Working with Diabetes 365

Just like you are great at certain things in life, our life insurance agents are great at dealing with, well, life insurance with Diabetes.
Even if your Diabetes isn’t under the best control, your rates for burial insurance for diabetics can be affordable. Various companies will ask details of your control of your condition, while some will not ask any details about your A1C history. If you are an individual with an elevated A1C, this would be beneficial as traditional life insurance companies may decline you for coverage due to a high A1C reading.

When you work with our agents, we help you find the best policy, given your Diabetes history, and overall health history. All you have to do is have a quick 5 minute phone call with an agent, and they’ll collect some basic health information from you. From there, we’ll present to you your various options for burial insurance coverage. Diabetes 365 has separated itself from other agencies, but choosing to only work with the Diabetes community. Our agents will only represent the most competitive companies, based off your health profile.

Perhaps you’ve spoken with other companies, or even been declined due to Diabetes history. Don’t be discouraged! WE come across cases like these all the time, and are able to find people the RIGHT company based off their Diabetes history. IN many situations, we are able to find a burial insurance company who may not charge higher rates, for having any type of diabetes.

The days of life insurance companies not considering Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics for coverage are LONG GONE! Life insurance companies have evolved, and are making life a little ‘easier’ on the Diabetes community.

What Exactly is Burial Insurance, or Final Expense Insurance?

Burial insurance or final expense insurance is a ‘term’ given to lower amounts of whole life insurance. Like the nickname, many people take out these policies to address burial costs, final expenses, and funeral costs. These burial insurance policies are the opposite of term life insurance, where the policy would expire at some point in time.

The policy features are identical to simplified issue whole life policies:

Whole Life policy that will stay the same price and death benefit for life

Pays 100% of the death benefit from day one (has no waiting period)

No exclusions but suicide in first two years

Cash value that can be borrowed from, or can be made into a reduced paid up policy if no longer want to pay premiums

Does not require an exam or medical records for approval – just short phone interview

At the time of death, the policy pays out the full death benefit to the named beneficiary. Payments are generally made in 2-3 business days.

Policies may be assigned to a Funeral home, where the benefit is paid straight to a funeral home.

The great thing about these types of policies, is you’ll NEVER BE REQUIRED to complete a Medical Exam! Also, approvals are made on your application in a matter of minutes, or days. You will not be waiting around weeks, for a decision. It’s nice to know that you won’t be waiting around for weeks to hear if you are approved or not.

Who Needs Burial Insurance?

Burial insurance policies are mainly ideal for the person who wants to have a permanent policy, to address all of their final expenses. Many people turn to life insurance to fund this need, as the payment to the beneficiary is lump sum and tax free. As an insured, you know that insurance money will be there for your family at the time of your death, and no one has to worry about how to pay for the expenses. Many seniors tend to prefer these smaller policies to address their final expenses.

Here at Diabetes 365, we feel that most families could benefit from having a burial insurance policy in force. Knowing that your family members will not have to worry about your funeral expenses and final expenses is a selfless gift. For many the cost of coverage is affordable, and less expensive than you originally thought.

With these types of whole life insurance policies, anyone from ages Zero through age 89 may be able to qualify. Since no paramedical examination is required, obtaining coverage is most likely easier than you can imagine. Several companies we work with can make an approval in a matter of minutes.

How are Burial Insurance Rates Determined?

When it comes to any type of insurance product, especially life insurance, rates are always going to vary from person to person. Here’s a list of what will determine the rates for an individual:

Current Age- The older a person is at the time of application, the higher the rates will be

Usage of Tobacco- Smokers will pay much higher rates.

Overall Health- A person with significant health issues may pay higher rates, or may only qualify for guaranteed acceptance policies.

The Control of Your Diabetes- People with significant diabetes-related complications or high A1C readings may pay higher rates.

Amount of Insurance- The higher amount of life insurance, the higher a person’s premiums will be.

What are the Different Types of Death Benefits?

Burial insurance policies for diabetics have TWO main types of death benefits, made payable to the beneficiary of the policy. Your overall health history, in combination with your Diabetes history will determine what plan you qualify for.

+ Immediate Death Benefit Plan – Like the name sounds, this burial policy will pay the full death benefit to the beneficiary, once ONE premium is paid. The only exclusion is if death occurs in first two years of policy, from Suicide. This is the type of burial policy, that most diabetics will qualify for. The trick is to work with a company, who specializes in working with the Diabetes community. We’ll know what companies that will approve you for Day 1 Coverage!

+ Graded Death Benefit Plan – These types of burial policies are intended for people who are in below average health. They are also known as ‘guaranteed acceptance’ policies. Since they will offer coverage to about anyone, their rates will be more expensive, compare to ‘immediate death benefit’ policies.

Also, with these policies, they will not pay the full death benefit, until after the second year of the policy. If death occurs in first two years of policies, premiums paid plus 10% is paid out. After two years, the full death benefit is paid out at time of death. People who have severe diabetic complications may only qualify for these types of diabetic burial insurance plans.

One of the biggest mistakes we see the Diabetes community make is accepting a graded or guaranteed issue policy, when they qualify for a policy that pays out immediately. Be leary of companies like Colonial Penn, AARP, and Globe Life who mail out applications to you. You may not even be aware that these policies have a two year waiting period, on paying out the full death benefit.

When it comes to making an important financial decision like purchasing a burial insurance policy, you’ll want to speak with an agent. Contact us at 844-281-1503 and speak with our agents.

Sentinel Security Life– Sentinel Security life is very diabetic friendly for burial insurance policies. They will consider people who have Type 1 Diabetes, and Type 2 Diabetes. The one criteria that makes them tough is if you take over 50 units of insulin daily, they will not offer immediate coverage. Outside of that, great burial insurance company, and they provide GREAT customer service. We love this company as they are pretty easy to work with.

Royal Neighbors of America- Royal Neighbors of America may be a company that you have never heard of. But that’s not a bad thing! They are a great burial insurance company for Diabetics! You have to be over the age of 50 to take out a policy, and can’t be diagnosed with Diabetes before age 30. However, they will accept you no matter the amount of insulin you take, and they will accept people with Diabetic complications. Their rates are competitive, and they pay their death benefits out in a very timely manner. We love working with this company as their customer services are top notch.

Prosperity Life- Prosperity life is another great option, for a diabetic burial insurance policy. They offer policies to people age 50 and over. Their burial policy also doesn’t have a minimum age for Diabetes onset. Nor are they concerned about a person’s amount of insulin they are taking. Great life insurance company that many people have not heard of. Prosperity life will not accept people with Diabetic complications however.

Mutual of Omaha- Mutual of Omaha burial insurance is one of the better known burial insurance providers. You’ve probably seen their TV commercials, and are familiar with them. What you didn’t know is that they will accept Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics for burial insurance coverage. However, you have to be diagnosed at age 50 or later with Diabetes. To determine your eligibility, simply contact us.

Senior Life Insurance Company– Another great company, when it comes to burial insurance for diabetics. They will consider both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics. This policy is only available to people between ages 0-80. If you have a history of Diabetes complications, you may still qualify for their immediate death benefit plan. The application process takes about 15 minus with Senior Life, and usually a decision is made within 24 hours. Senior Life is a great company that understands the Diabetes community.

Gerber Life– Gerber Life insurance company, surprisingly, offers one of the best ‘guarantee acceptance’ policies. No health questions, and no one can be denied for their product. Minimum age to apply is 50. This is a good option for those Diabetics who can’t qualify for policies that pay a day immediate death benefit. You’ll only want to consider the Gerber Life Burial Insurance plan if you do not qualify for an immediate death benefit option.

If you want the best rates on burial insurance for Diabetics, you need to work with an agency like us! We are going to help you locate the policy that will not only accept you with your Diabetes history, but also recommend the lowest priced options.

Conslusion

This is just one sample health questionnaire. If you would answer YES to some of these questions, you may qualify for another company’s diabetic burial insurance policy. That’s the advantage of working with Diabetes 365, and our agents. We aren’t limited to just recommending one life insurance company. We’ll help you find the company that suits you and your families needs.

Every insurance company will ask about your history of Diabetes. It’s extremely important to disclose your Diabetes condition on the application. Every insurance company will ask specific questions about when you were diagnosed with Diabetes. One company may ask if your diagnosis was onset before age 50. Another may ask if you were Diagnosed before age 30. These variations in questions is why it’s important to work with a knowledgeable agent who’s proficient in the Underwriting guides with several insurance carriers. Don’t make the mistake of applying to an insurance company who will decline you simply because of your age first diagnosed with Diabetes.

The bottom line is we ONLY work with people who have Diabetes, find the best types of insurance policies for them, and their family. We have the expertise to find you the Burial Insurance Policy that will work best in your situation. Don’t let other websites and agents trick you into thinking you cannot qualify for coverage, nor do not over pay for burial insurance coverage.

Diabetes is one of the most common health conditions in the U.S. and the number of people who have diabetes is increasing every year. Currently experts estimate that more than 10% of the adult population has diabetes and that figure could be even higher. Diabetes can cause a range of health problems that make it impossible to work. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes and can’t work because of it and you expect that you won’t be able to work for at least a year because of your diabetes you can file a claim for Social Security disability benefits.

Disability benefits can provide the money that you need to pay for essentials like housing and food and also to pay for extra medical expenses that aren’t covered by your insurance. If you have worked and paid taxes at any point you can qualify for Social Security disability benefits.

Some of the most common symptoms of diabetes include:

nephropathy (kidney disease)

neuropathy (nerve damage) in feet or hands that disrupts your ability to stand, walk, or use your hands

Medically Qualifying for Diabetes

All of the conditions that make someone eligible for Social Security disability benefits are listed in the Social Security Administration’s Blue Book. Every listing in the book has a set of very specific requirements that a person has to meet in order to be approved for benefits based on that condition. In just the last couple of years the SSA removed the listing for diabetes. However, people with diabetes can still qualify for benefits if they meet the detailed listing for one of the conditions that often appear concurrently with diabetes or that are caused by diabetes. Some of those conditions and their requirements include:

Bacterial Infections/Skin That Won’t Heal (Listing 8.04). If you develop ulcerated skin lesions that last longer than three months despite treatment and they make it difficult for you to walk or use your hands, you can qualify for benefits under the listing for chronic skin infections.

Diabetic Nephropathy(Listing 6.06). If the diabetes causes your kidneys to stop filtering properly and you require daily dialysis or if there is evidence of too much protein or creatine in your plasma, you may qualify for benefits until this listing.

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathies (Listing 11.14). It’s very common for people with diabetes to have some form of nerve damage in their hands, feet, arms, or legs. But in order to qualify for benefits under this Blue Book listing you have to show that your neuropathy causes a significant disruption of your ability to walk, stand, or use your hands in a skilled way.

Diabetic Retinopathy (Listing 2.00). One of the most common side effects of diabetes is having vision problems. If you develop blurred vision or poor visual acuity (between 20/100 and 20/200 in your better eye), or poor peripheral vision from surgery to correct your central vision, you can qualify for disability benefits under this listing.

Cardiovascular Problems -Diabetes can lead to coronary artery disease (listing 4.04), chronic heart failure (listing 4.02), peripheral vascular disease (listing 4.12), and an irregular heartbeat (listing 4.05). Any of these conditions can qualify someone to receive disability benefits.

Amputation (Listing 1.05). If left untreated diabetes often leads to amputation of a foot or both feet. If you’ve had a foot amputated due to nerve damage and poor circulation caused by diabetes, you may be able to get benefits if you have other limitations as well.

Following a Doctor’s Orders

When you file a claim for disability benefits due to a condition caused by diabetes you will need to submit proof that you are following your doctor’s orders and following through on treatments to try and improve your health. Most often doctors will prescribe a certain diet and lifestyle changes like getting a certain amount of exercise regularly as well as insulin therapy and other treatments to improve your health. You need to prove to the SSA that you are doing everything possible to improve your condition by strictly following your doctor’s orders in order to be considered eligible for disability benefits.

Medical Vocational Allowance

Often people who have diabetes fail to meet the very strict requirements set by the SSA in order to qualify for disability benefits due to diabetes. When this happens, there is still a way that you can be eligible for disability benefits. It’s called a Medical Vocational Allowance. In order to be qualified for disability benefits under this exception you will need to download a Residual Functional Capacity form from the SSA’s website and have your doctor fill it out.

The Residual Functional Capacity evaluation is where your doctor can make a case for you to receive benefits. Your doctor will need to describe in great detail why your condition makes it impossible for you to work. The doctor will also need to describe the specific limitations related to your diabetes that make it impossible for you to do the kind of work that you had been doing.

After you get the RFC evaluation back from your doctor you can submit your claim, your medical documentation, and your evaluation to the SSA. The SSA will then examine your documentation and look at factors like your age, your work history, and your skill set. They will look to see if there is any kind of work at all that you can do. If they can’t find any type of work that you’re qualified to do with the limitations that you have then you will be eligible for SSA benefits.

Filing A Claim

The best way to file a claim is to make an appointment at your local SSA branch office. Bring all of your documentation and paperwork with you and someone at the SSA office will help you fill out the claim forms and submit your documentation. As you are probably aware, this process will take time. Please do not expect a decision overnight. Most likely there will be follow up phone calls and questions you’ll need to answer.

How to Appeal a Denial

It’s very common for people to have their claim for disability benefits denied on the first try. If you are denied you need to file an appeal immediately. Your appeal will be heard by an administrative law judge and you are allowed to have a lawyer. Having a lawyer that specializes in disability benefit claims can be a huge help in getting an approval because the lawyer can present a cogent fact-based case for why you should be approved based on the Social Security Administration’s listings and rules.

It is very important to have life insurance for yourself, especially if you have diabetes. You may think that in order to be eligible for diabetes life insurance, you have to undergo a medical exam, and have your medical records reviewed. This is not true.

Currently in the United States, there are nearly 31 million people with Type 2 Diabetes, 1.25 million people living with Type 1 Diabetes, and another 84 million have Pre-Diabetes.

It is very possible for people living with diabetes to find affordable diabetic life insurance coverage, and there are actually several different choices of coverage available to the Diabetes community. You may be eligible for non-medical exam life insurance for diabetics, and just not know it! Everyone’s Diabetes history is different, so please simply request a quote, and an agent can determine the various options available to you.

What Is Non-Medical Exam Life Insurance for Diabetics?

Non-medical exam life insurance, also known as no exam life insurance, is a type of policy that does not require blood tests, urine tests, or additional testing when applying for life insurance coverage.

The majority of traditional life insurance companies often require the applicant to have a medical exam, completed by an examiner, before qualifying for a life insurance plan.

This is because life insurance companies tend to prefer to ‘fully underwrite’ a person, who has Diabetes. They will want to review your lab results, in addition to the last 5 years worth of your medical and Diabetes records. All of this information would be used by an Underwriter, to make a formal offer of life insurance coverage. The rates will vary from person to person, and again are determined by a review of a person’s complete health profile.

Life insurance companies look at diabetes as a progressive disease. This means that the longer you have had it, the more susceptible you are to complications from the elevated blood sugar, and thus the more risky you are to insure. This is part of the reason why type 1 diabetics who were diagnosed early in life (usually before age 30) have a harder time getting insured than type 2 diabetics who were diagnosed after 30 and are able to better control their condition.

Good news! If you don’t want to wait weeks for an offer of coverage, or if you don’t want to go thru these hoops and hurdles, you can opt for a no medical exam life insurance policy for diabetics.

What is the Application Process Without an Exam?

The application process is pretty similar to traditional life insurance policies, minus the examination. Applications can be completed electronically, or if you prefer, you can print them out, and put pen to paper. You’ll provide the life insurance companies your pertinent information such as:

Age of Diabetes Onset

Current medications, if any, being prescribed to help control your diabetes.

Any use of Diabetes technology such as a CGM?

Most recent A1C reading.

Any diabetic complications?

How often do you test your blood sugar

Any other medications currently taking outside of Diabetes medications?

Any major health issues?

Any use tobacco products within the last year?

Approximate height and weight.

In addition to this information, insurance companies will also do a motor vehicle record review, a prescription drug background check, and a review of your MIB report. Certain companies may also review your medical records. Not all will, but some can require them. The information gathered, determines if you qualify, or not.

If not wanting companies ‘snooping’ thru your records, just let your agent know this up front. They can make recommendations based off your preferences. Non medical exam life insurance with Diabetes doesn’t have to be confusing. Simply contact us, have a brief conversation, and from there we can provide you with all the information you are seeking.

Pros & Cons of Non-Medical Exam Life Insurance

Pros:

Not as many life insurance companies to choose from, compared to traditional life insurance

Could be tougher to qualify for, depending on your prescription drug history, and previous life insurance application history

Who Qualifies for Non-Medical Exam Diabetic Life Insurance?

Believe it or not, almost anyone with Diabetes, qualifies for some type of non-medical exam life insurance policy. However, people who typically purchase non-medical exam life insurance tend to fall under one of the following categories: People with “white coat” syndrome who want to escape the stress of a medical exam and the dread getting poked with a needle during a blood draw.

Or maybe you are a very busy person and cannot make any time to schedule an exam, People needing insurance in a hurry for a purpose, such as to collateralize a loan, meet a divorce obligation, and People who only require a smaller amount of life insurance (less than $500,000) are often prime candidates for a policy that does not require a medical exam

+ People with Type 1 Diabetes

If you have Type 1 diabetes or you are an insulin-dependent diabetic, diagnosed before the age of 30, you will typically face the largest challenges for qualifying for life insurance coverage. However, you would still have options for Term and Whole Life Insurance that wouldn’t require an examination. The number of options available to you is limited when compared to people diagnosed with diabetes later in life.

If you were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes before age 30, and are in need of a Term Life Insurance policy without a medical exam, more than likely companies will review your last three to five years worth of Diabetes records. If diagnosed at age 30 or later, then several companies would consider without an exam, or review of medical records.

What if you are in need of a permanent form of life insurance? If your financial objectives fit this type of life insurance product, there would companies that would offer up to $100,000 in coverage, no matter the age of your Type 1 Diabetes. Different products, and companies would be determined by, the state you reside in.

To determine rates and eligibility, the various life insurance companies are going to simply ask if you questions about your Type 1 Diabetes history, use of Diabetes related technology, and other health questions. If you use an insulin pump, we’d simply ask a few follow up questions to this matter. Or maybe you have an artificial pancreas. If that’s the case, again, there would be additional questions that we would ask. The Diabetes technology world is constantly changing, and this is why you want to work with specialists such as Diabetes 365 !!!! WE will help you find the best life insurance company, based off your Diabetes profile!!!

+ People with Type 2 Diabetes

It is typically easier to qualify for life insurance for Type 2 diabetics. Some life insurance companies are much more lenient with applicants who are able to control their diabetes through diet and exercise and/or with an oral diabetes medication and Insulin. If having Type 2 Diabetes, that will open more doors, and you’ll have more options to choose from. In the life insurance world we currently live in, companies tend to favor people who have Type 2 Diabetes, compared to an individual with Type 1 Diabetes when applying for no medical exam life insurance policies. This means that your rates may be lower, depending on your Diabetes history.

If you do not require insulin to control your blood sugar, there are potential workarounds for getting a competitively priced policy approved with similar rates as person who applies using a medical exam policy. Type 2 diabetics with an A1C of 8.0 or lower will usually have an easier time finding the most affordable life insurance rates. If A1C is 10.0 or lower, you’ll still have options. It’s always a good idea to contact us, explain your situation, and let the Diabetes Life Insurance experts guide you thru your search of life insurance.

+ People with Prediabetes

Having Pre-Diabetes should not have any impact, on you qualifying for a no medical exam life insurance policy. Assuming that you are following Doctors orders, possibly exercising and watching your diet, the process should be a ‘breeze’.

You may qualify for Term Life Insurance policies up to $1 Million in coverage, where an approval is made in minutes or within 48 hours. Permanent insurance could also be obtained in a matter of minutes or days.

As long as there’s no red flags in your prescription history, or any other significant health issues, your rates would be the same as a person who isn’t considered Pre-Diabetic. For the majority of non medical exam life insurance providers, Pre-Diabetes isn’t a concern

+ People with History of Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes is more common than most people think. American Diabetes Association even claims that nearly 9.2% of women who are pregnant, can be diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.

Luckily, history of Gestational Diabetes has little impact on your non medical exam life insurance with Diabetes. Companies are going to be mainly concerned with your current height, weight, and other lifestyle choices. The main thing we recommend is to be compliant with your Doctor’s instructions. Meaning if they encourage your to watch your diet, exercise, refrain from alcohol, then please listen to your medical professional.

People with history of Gestational Diabetes should have no issues qualifying for both Term and Permanent insurance products. There would be a plethora of options for you to choose from. Simply speak with one of our licensed agents, and let them help find you the best type of policy given your financial needs.

Common Types of Non-Medical Exam Life Insurance for Diabetics

The most common life insurance options that do not require a medical exam include:

No Medical Exam Term Life Insurance

If you’re between the ages of 21 and 70 you can purchase a policy without an exam for $25,000 to $500,000 in death benefits. The rates for term life insurance for diabetics are fixed and are available in 10, 15, 20, and 30 year terms.

There is no obligation to keep the term life insurance policy for the entire duration. If you no longer wish to have the life insurance policy, you can simply cancel it at any time. By doing so, the life insurance policy will no longer be in force.

Many term policies come with the discussed ‘living benefit riders’ at no extra fee to you. If diagnosed with a Chronic, Critical, or Terminal Illness, you could accelerate part of the death benefit, while living, and use the life insurance benefit as you see fit.

Guaranteed Universal Life Insurance (GUL)

Guaranteed Universal life insurance policies offer a fixed death benefit of up to $500,000 with a fixed monthly cost guaranteed not to change as you get older. GUL’s are available for applicants between the ages of 21 and 75, and also known as term-to-Age 100 policies because these policies offer rates and coverage that is guaranteed until age 80, 85, 90, 95, or 100 or later. As the insured, you can really ‘dial’ in the length of a policy you want, to match your financial needs. These policies are a great alternative to expensive non-guaranteed universal life insurance policies because they are provide GUARANTEED premiums.

These policies may be ideal for a person who simply wants permanent life insurance coverage, and isn’t worried about the ‘cash value’ of a policy. Guaranteed Universal LIfe policies are considerably less expensive, compared to Whole Life Insurance policies.

Level Death Benefit Whole Life

These Whole Life Insurance policies tend to be expensive, but if your health is average or better, they are very easy to qualify for. As you are probably aware, Whole Life insurance is a form of permanent insurance, with guaranteed level rates.

In addition to providing life insurance coverage, Whole Life Insurance policies accrue cash value over time. The cash value could be accessed thru a ‘policy loan’, or if you surrendered the policy.

The policy covers a person’s entire life. At the time of death, the policy will pay the death benefit to the beneficiary, in a lump sum payment.

People with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes would have several options for these non medical policies. You could purchase a policy without an exam from $5000 to $100,000 in coverage.

The older you become, the lower amount of coverage may be offered by the various companies. Companies will begin offering lower limits of Whole Life Insurance as you enter your 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

Some people take out smaller amounts of non medical exam Whole Life Insurance to cover burial costs, and final expenses. Policies like these are easily obtainable, and very affordable for Diabetics.

Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance for Diabetics

Guaranteed issue policies offer up to $25,000 in death benefits for those who are between ages 40 and 85 and have serious health issues. These policies are the ones that you normally see advertised on TV by celebrities or AARP and they tend to be expensive for the amount of coverage you receive because “no health questions are asked.”

Since a person cannot be turned down for coverage, the Whole LIfe Insurance policy will have a TWO year waiting period on paying out the full death benefit of the policy. If a person passes away of natural causes in first TWO years, all premiums paid into policy plus 10% is refunded to beneficiary. If death occurs at any time after the first two years, then full amount of policy is paid to beneficiary.

Graded Death Benefit Whole Life Insurance

Similar to a Guaranteed Issue Life product, these policies won’t pay out the full death benefit until policy is TWO years or older. However, if you can answer NO to a few health questions, some Life Insurance companies will offer policies that pay 40% of Death Benefit in year 1 of policy, and 70% of Death benefit of Policy in Year 2.

Policies like these may be less expensive compared to Guarantee Issue Whole Life Insurance policies, and would more of a death benefit in the first Two years of a policy.

What Types of Life Insurance Riders are Available?

Great news for people living with the various Types of Diabetes! Your policies can come with the same type of ‘riders’ that people without Diabetes can obtain. We’re going to outline a few of the most popular riders that our clients choose.

Return of Premium Rider: With this ‘rider’, when your term life insurance policy is up, and assuming you are still alive, you receive all of the premiums you paid into policy back. This is paid lump sum, and is tax free.

Waiver of Premium Rider: Waiver of premium rider is often times referred to as waiver of premium for disability. With this rider, if you became sick, or injured and could no longer work, the rider would go into effect. The rider would cover your policy, as no more premiums would be due from you. One in five americans live with a Disability, so a rider like this may be a good idea to consider.

Accelerated Living Benefit Riders: In our eyes, these are some of the most important riders, or benefits you can have with a life insurance policy. Three main type of Living Benefit Riders are available, and most policies include all three:

Terminal Illness– This benefit would allow the owner of policy to receive a portion of the death benefit, if the insured was diagnosed with a Terminal Illness. Owner would simply provide written evidence from a Doctor supporting that the insured has an illness that is expected to result in death within twelve months.

Chronic Illness– This benefit allow the owner of policy to receive a portion of the death benefit if the insured is diagnosed with a Chronic Illness. Again, you’d provide written evidence from a medical professional, stating the following: (1) Not being able to perform at least two activities of daily living for at least 90 days, as defined in the rider, or (2) Requiring substantial supervision due to severe cognitive impairment for at least 90 days, as defined in the rider.

Critical Illness– With this benefit, the owner can elect to receive payment of a portion of the death benefit if the insured is diagnosed with a Critical Illness. The owner of policy provides evidence for a licensed Physician, confirming the qualifying event. Some qualifying events are Heart Attacks, Strokes, Cancer, Renal Failure, or an Organ transplant.

Obtaining Life Insurance for Diabetics is always an important decision for you and your family. But discussing specific ‘riders’ are equally as important. It doesn’t have to be confusing or complicated. Simply visit with one of our agents, who can help you with these life altering decisions.

The Paleo Diet is a strict diet that is also referred to as the caveman diet. Basically, the diet consists of things that if the caveman did not eat it, neither do you. Your main focus in this diet is anything you can hunt or gather. This means meat, fish, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and vegetables.

This is the basics of the diet however, there are many benefits and more to it than if the caveman did not eat it neither do you.

What is the Paleo Diet?

This diet helps you stop counting calories and making sure your portions are perfect, instead you are looking at healthier foods so you can have a healthier body. The Paleo Diet can help you lose weight and get in shape as well. Many people use this diet to rid that extra fat and build muscle.

Now you are probably thinking, not another diet. I hate those words. Well, this is not necessarily a diet, it is more of what is good for you and did not exist back in the caveman era where they hunted and gathered their food.

No sugary foods, no cereals, and nothing basically that was bad for you.

The Human Body and the Paleo Diet

The average homo sapien back in that era was fit, agile, muscular, athletic whereas today the average homo sapiens is overweight, stressed-out, unhappy, sleep deprived, and has many diseases.

So what exactly happened to get humans to this point? Farming happened. Hunter-gatherers turned into farmers. Now, this is great because so many different things have happened since people have made communities and new inventions, except our bodies never changed the way our lifestyle did.

Our bodies never really adapted to the many grains and sugars that humans are now consuming in large amounts. This caused humans to start gaining weight.

The body is not made to consume large amounts of grains and sugars, because it was used to meat and vegetables. With humans now at an astonishing rate of obesity with numbers as high as 33% and 66% are overweight.

Many people start to consider the Paleo Diet to help them lose weight and make their bodies happy.

No Grains

The Paleo Diet does not consist of grains because there were no grains which mean our body is not used to the large consumption of them. When grains enter the body they are carbohydrates which turn into sugars, and for many people, then turn into fat.

Which is no good.

Sugar is out of the diet as well. No candies, sodas, or cake. This is because the only sugar you will be getting is natural sugar from fruit. Sugar can cause a huge problem in your body if the energy created by sugar is not used immediately. It is turned into fat.

Processed foods are also out of the picture. Anything pre-packaged, processed, pre-made is out of the picture on this diet.

Goodbye Carbohydrates

No carbohydrates, sugars, or processed foods while on this diet. So where do you get your energy from? Well, the answer is simple. The human body was originally designed to run on a low carbohydrate system. When there is an absence of carbohydrates the body actually turns to the stored fat in your body and starts using the fat as your energy source and this is known as ketogenesis.

Basically, without carbohydrates as a fuel source, your body will attack the fat and you will have more energy while burning fat. You will lose weight easily. Not only will you lose weight you will feel better, less groggy and tired, and you will be able to be a healthier person.

Your body fat percentage will go down, you will have a decreased fat storage, and you will look and feel great. Not only do you look great but you can eat as much as you want until you are full because your body will run on this fat to make your energy.

You will be losing weight and gaining confidence at the same time.

Can You Intake Dairy on the Paleo Diet?

Dairy is a tricky subject. This seems to be a divide in the Paleo Diet community. This is because the human race is the only animal that drinks milk or consumes dairy after infancy. Studies show that some adaptations to milk have been made over the years in the body, but still some people are lactose intolerant.

Dairy is a touchy subject for the Paleo Diet because no one is really sure if it good or bad. Most people tend to stay away from dairy.

Not only do you get the benefits of losing weight and being generally healthy, the Paleo Diet has proven to reverse many diseases. It is a very healthy diet and it is proven to help with weight loss, overall health, and will have you more alert than ever.

Paleo Diet and Diabetes

When on the Paleo Diet, a diabetic can expect regulated sugar levels, weight loss, and more energy. You will not be consuming carbohydrates and sugars which will make you tired and groggy but instead, your fat will be burned causing alertness and weight loss. This will mean a healthier lifestyle for you.

You will not have to worry about being overweight or not eating enough because this diet allows a lot of food just the right foods.

Life Insurance and the Paleo Diet

With all of the complications that can arise from living with diabetes, the Paleo Diet may be a way to help you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Everyone with diabetes will have different results, to this type of diet.

This could not only lead to helping to prevent complications, but can also go a long way when applying for certain things, such as life insurance as a diabetic. Life insurance companies tend to provide much higher rates to diabetics, even life insurance for type 2 diabetics, than they do people who are considered to be healthy.

If you choose to apply for a life insurance policy, either term life or whole life, that requires a review of medical records, companies will be looking for things such as your Diet. If your records show that you are taking your diet seriously, and that your body and control of Diabetes is responding well to the diet, your offers may come back 10% to 20% better, compared to other people with diabetes.

Don’t let all of this be confusing. That’s why we are here! Diabetes 365 was created to help the diabetes community, with their Life Insurance needs! We can get an idea of your overall health, financial needs, and we will help you determine what plans, and insurance companies, may be best for your situation.

Let’s look at the following example:

For a Male, looking into Type 1 Diabetes life insurance:

+ Male, age 40, non tobacco user. Type 1 Diabetes onset at age 15. A1C 6.9, exercises regularly, and watches diet, and body responding to the Paleo Diet. He is 5’9” 150 lbs.

A 20 year $100,000 term life insurance policy would be about $380.00 annually

We will now compare this to the same type of individual, who may does not watch his diet, maybe not exercise as often, and weight is a little off.

+ Male, age 40, non tobacco user. Type 1 Diabetes onset at age 15, A1C 7.5, not really watching diet and doesn’t have a dedicated exercise program. He is 5’9” and 170 lbs.

A 20 year $100,000 term life insurance policy would be about $500.00 annually.

As you can tell rates are slightly higher. Over a 20 year period, this leads to thousands more paid into life insurance premiums.

There are many ways to obtain affordable diabetic life insurance and being as healthy as you possibly can even with diabetes is a great way to do that. Underwriters may look at your height, weight, BMI, medical history and other factors that can be helped by living on the Paleo Diet. Better your overall health, height, weight, the better your premiums will be!

Paleo Food Pyramid

You can also opt for a non-medical exam life insurance policy as a diabetic. People who may benefit from a policy that doesn’t require blood/urine exam, or review of medical records, are the diabetics who may not have the best control of their Diabetes, or are not at an ideal Height/Weight. Certain diabetic life insurance companies won’t ask about A1C history. IF your A1C is not where it needs to be, these life insurance policies may be your only option for coverage.

The most important fact is to speak with a doctor when deciding any sort of weight loss or exercise plan. Living with Diabetes, there isn’t ONE blueprint that works for everybody!!!

Once you do this, speak with one of our agents, and let us see what companies may offer the best diabetes life insurance rates, given your overall health profile. We work with the Diabetes community everyday, with their life insurance needs. Don’t get ‘fooled’ by unethical agents who provide fake quotes to diabetics, to trick you into applying. If you do so, the offers come back much higher.

Work with a group who specializes in life insurance for diabetics, and one who will be honest and ethical at all times. Contact us today, and let us begin providing you with information, to help your search for life insurance with Diabetes.

Diabetes is more common than you think. According to NIDDK , here are the latest statistics:

Total: An estimated 30.3 million people have diabetes (9.4 percent of the U.S. population)

Diagnosed: An estimated 23.1 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes (7.2 percent of the U.S. population)

Undiagnosed: An estimated 7.2 million adults, ages 18 years or older are undiagnosed (23.8 percent of people with diabetes)

Purchasing term life insurance for diabetics may not be as easy as you originally thought. You always hear those commercials saying that you can get $500,000 of term life insurance, for $23 dollars per month. Sounds great, doesn’t it???

But did you know if you have Diabetes, either Type 1 or Type 2, you won’t qualify for those low, low rates. Or you may be declined all together for those products that are being advertised on TV and the Radio. Sadly, those companies don’t disclose up front, that Diabetics will not qualify for those lower priced policies.

Life insurance comes in two forms. Permanent, and Term. Term life insurance for diabetics can be an affordable alternative to traditional permanent life insurance policies, for the people who will not need life insurance for their entire life.

Diabetes term life insurance policies offer lower premiums for individuals with diabetes who cannot afford or who do not need whole life insurance coverage. It is important to weigh the risks and benefits of each type of life insurance policy prior to purchasing as each has their respective pros and cons.

What is Term Life Insurance?

Term life insurance is a life insurance policy that is secured for a specific period of time. Should the policy holder pass within the time period that the term life insurance policy was active, death benefits would be paid to the beneficiary. However, if the term expires, the coverage is void and no payout will be available upon the death of the policy holder. This is very straightforward, and easy to understand.

Common terms of coverage are often secured for 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years (duration of terms vary based on your needs). As is with any life insurance premium, you pay a monthly premium. Term life insurance policies tend to have much lower premiums initially as opposed to permanent life insurance, making term life insurance a more affordable choice for diabetics.

The downfall to term life insurance is that there is no guarantee that you will be able to obtain a new policy when the term expires, leaving your death benefit payout dependent on your ability to obtain a new policy if you do not pass within the term of your policy. You never know what your overall health, and control of Diabetes will be, at the time of your next life insurance application.

Some companies allow you to convert part, or all of your policy during your initial term period. Generally, a life insurance company will not require you to complete any further underwriting, or health exams. They simply will determine your premium at time of conversion based off current age, and amount of insurance converting.

What Term Life Insurance is Not

Term life insurance is not a form of permanent or whole life insurance. Whole life insurance policies provide life insurance coverage for the entire duration of the policy holder’s life as long as the premiums are paid in full. Whole life insurance policies also boast the benefit of accumulating cash value – a benefit not present with term life policies. Diabetic term life insurance will only provide coverage, for the term duration, or durations you choose as the policy holder.

While whole life insurance policies are highly desirable for their duration of coverage and extensive benefits, monthly premiums associated with whole life policies are much higher than premiums associated with term life policies. Many people with Diabetes will not be able to afford the higher premiums for $250,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000 in life insurance you’ll need to protect your family.

For diabetics, already high premiums will be even greater, making whole life policies difficult to afford for diabetics on a limited income. Both term life insurance and whole life insurance will have premiums that do not increase for the term duration of the policy. The following chart breaks down the differences between Term and Whole life insurance.

Can I Qualify for Term Life Insurance with Diabetes?

Without knowing a person’s complete health profile, or their Diabetes history, it’s impossible to say. But for the majority of Type 1 Diabetics, and Type 2 Diabetics, there are generally a plethora of term life insurance options available.

Term life insurance rates for Diabetics are currently at an all time low. Overtime, life insurance companies have changed their underwriting guidelines, and begun viewing people with Diabetes a little more favorably, then they have in the pasat.

Ultimately, a person’s complete medical history will determine if they qualify for coverage, and at what rates. To determine what your options are simply contact us, and let us share what policies you may qualify for.

What do Term Life Insurance Companies look for in my Diabetes History?

First off, all diabetic life insurance companies will have different underwriting guidelines for diabetics. NO two companies are the same!

Diabetes information life insurance companies will consider:

Your type of diabetes

Age you were first diagnosed with Diabetes

Most recent A1C reading

Any use of Diabetes related technology

Any diabetes-related complications

How often do you test your Blood Sugar

Types of Diabetes medications being used

How often do you see your Doctor or endocrinologist

Do your watch your Diet, and exercise regularly

This list will give you an idea of the Diabetes information a life insurance company will be looking for, when applying for term life insurance coverage. Our agents will work with you to help you gather everything you would need before hand. If you have Type 2 Diabetes, here’s an article that provides some tips in getting the best possible premiums.

Can I get a Term Life Insurance Policy with Diabetes without doing an Exam?

Fortunately for the Diabetes community, more and more life insurance companies are beginning to offer this option. Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics may have multiple options for non medical exam life insurance policies.

Some carriers will be able to make an underwriting decision in a matter of minutes, or days. The life insurance company will have you answer health questions, provide details to your Diabetes and other health history. They will also do a MIB ( Medical Information Bureau) report, and will run a prescription background check. That information will provide them with enough information to either approve, or deny you for Term Life Insurance.

Other non medical exam policies may require a review of medical records. IF that’s the case, an approval may take up to three or four weeks. Once the medical records are received, the Underwriter will review your Diabetes history and will be able to make an offer. Depending on your complete health history, this may or may not be the best way to move forward with a term life insurance policy.

To determine what your specific options for non medical exam life insurance for diabetics are, simply reach out to us. An agent would take down some basic health information, and could then provide all the various options to you.

Does Having Diabetes make my Term Life Insurance Policy more Expensive?

Possibly. There are so many factors that go into determining the rates for term life insurance, for diabetics. It’s impossible to accurately say YES or NO without knowing more about you and your health.

If you have Type 1 Diabetes, most likely your rates will be higher compared to a person with Type 2 Diabetes, or without Diabetes. Majority of life insurance companies still view the Type 1 Diabetes community as a higher risk. Thus, they will ‘table rate’ our policy, which means you’re premiums will be more expensive.

People with Type 2 Diabetes will usually find their term life insurance rates better priced, and often times will receive rates similar to those without Diabetes. Due to Type 2 Diabetes becoming more common, life insurance companies have gotten smarter, and are offering better rates.

To see what possible rates you may qualify for, reach out to us. We love to help people with Diabetes find the best possible life insurance policies

What Term Durations of Life Insurance are Available?

Since everyone has different financial objectives, there isn’t any ‘one size fits all’ policy that is perfect for everyone. Because of this, life insurance companies will provide different term lengths to accommodate.

Majority of term life insurance providers will offer durations of 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 30, years, or even 35 year term periods. So if you are wanting to protect a mortgage with life insurance for 30 years, you could do so. Or possibly you have a need for a SBA Loan that requires a life insurance policy to be assigned for 10 years, you could most certainly do that.

Everyone’s personal situation is different. Term Life Insurance policies can be customized to your needs. IN certain situations, it may make sense to ‘ladder’ multiple term policies together. As you get older and the need for coverage decreases, one term policy would expire, but another one would already be in place, to STILL provide the protection you need.

What ‘Riders’ does a Term Life Insurance Policy Come With?

Great news! Even though you have Diabetes, your term life insurance policy can come with the same types of Riders, that non diabetics policies come with. Here are some popular riders our Diabetic clients tend to take out on their policies.

Popular Riders

+ Living Benefit Riders – If diagnosed with a Terminal Illness, Chronic Illness, or Critical Illness, you could accelerate part of your death benefit while living.

+ Waiver of Premium Rider – A waiver of premium rider pays all life insurance premiums due if the insured person becomes disabled.

+ Guaranteed Insurability Rider – This rider lets you purchase additional life insurance coverage at a later date without undergoing a medical exam or providing any evidence about your insurability.

+ Return of Premium Rider – If you live to the end of the term, in exchange for paying the premium, in most circumstances you get all your premiums back.

Our agents are happy to explain the Pros and Cons, of these riders. Some of the riders may cost extra, while some may free and built into the policy at no cost.

What Term Life Insurance Companies are Best for Diabetics?

As a person with Diabetes, you will have options in regards to the life insurance companies, who will offer diabetic term life insurance policies.

Your Diabetes and health history will determine what companies, and what rates will be available to you. We generally recommend for a person to allow us to run their health profile past various insurance carriers, and then let us present to you the various offers.

Company A may review your health profile, and make an offer that is 25% higher than Company B. This is why we recommend you ONLY work with life insurance agents, such as Diabetes 365, who specialize in working with the Diabetes community.

If wanting to undergo a ‘fully underwritten’ policy take a look at in our opinion the best Term Life Insurance Companies for Diabetics.

What is the Application Process?

Once you’ve decided on a non-mendical exam policy, or a policy that requires Blood work and a review of medical records, you simply contact an agency such as Diabetes 365.

We would provide the application to you to complete, or you could complete it over the phone and thru email with one of our agents. The choice is simply yours.

While you application for term life insurance is pending, your agent would stay in contact with you. If any additional information is needed by the life insurance company, we would simply reach out to you.

Our agents would also help you prepare for your medical exam, if needed, and would work with your Doctors office on obtaining the necessary medical records. Once all information is received, and the life insurance company made their offers, our agents would present to you your various term life insurance for Diabetics options.

At that point you can choose the insurance company, term length, and amount of coverage. Your policy is then emailed or mailed to your address. The entire process is much simpler, then you probably realize.

Who Should Consider a Term Life Insurance Policy?

It is important to consider all of your life insurance options, as well as the pros and cons associated with the policy you plan to pursue. Searching for term life insurance for diabetics isn’t as easy as you think. Lots of online websites provide FAKE quotes, to trick you into applying for coverage through them. At the end of the process, your rates comes back much, much higher. This isn’t the way to go about treating the Diabetes community!!! Term Life Insurance for Diabetics is a good option if any of the following apply to your personal situation:

You are young, and need the lowest priced life insurance option

Only need life insurance for a specific term period

Need a policy for a shorter duration, to possibly cover a SBA Loan or a Divorce decree.

You are unsure if you need a permanent policy at the moment. You can always convert to a permanent policy in the future

Discuss your needs with an independent life insurance agent to assess the extent of coverage you need. It’s our job to work with you, and to help you and your family make the best decision possible. Don’t put this important decision off any longer. Contact us and let us go to work for you!
